Jussie Smollett followed liberal dogma that says oppression is the new privilege - Washington Examiner

You can hardly blame Jussie Smollett for having allegedly faked the violent Trump-inspired, racist, homophobic attack that he reported late last month. He only put into practice what liberals and the social justice movement preach.

Chicago police are requesting another interview with Smollett, reportedly because new evidence suggests he staged the incident and paid two black men, whom he knew, to make it look like he was brutally assaulted. The story was going to be that supporters of President Trump doused him in bleached and hung a noose around his neck in public late one night. Though strange, the story held up for nearly 20 days, until police tracked down the men involved.

But back to Smollett, because he is both black and gay he could count on the fact that the hoax would check two of the social justice hierarchy’s most prized status boxes.

When Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., who is running for president, tweeted in December that “Our future is: Female, Intersectional, Powered by our belief in one another. And we’re just getting started,” this is more or less what she was referring to. The more societal oppression someone can claim, we call it “intersectionality,” the more morally correct he is assumed to be, and the more valid his viewpoint. That was evidenced by the outpouring of solidarity, encouragement and support for Smollett by Hollywood, Democrats and the news media after he first made his dubious claim about the alleged attack.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., tweeted, “This attack was not ‘possibly’ homophobic. It was a racist and homophobic attack. If you don’t like what is happening to our country, then work to change it. It is no one’s job to water down or sugar-coat the rise of hate crimes.”

CNN host Brooke Baldwin on air described the alleged assault as “absolutely despicable,” adding that “hopefully the police run this down really quickly.”

Actress Emma Watson tweeted, “Disgusted by the ugly prejudice and bigotry behind this violence. Sending love to @JussieSmollett & to anyone that has been hurt by the hatred of those who fear difference."

Liberal American culture, which is largely to say Hollywood and the news media, rewards anyone who can claim to be a victim of societal oppression. And the more of a victim you are, the better. And how much more of a victim can you be than a gay black man beat up by Trump supporters?! Jackpot!

As to why Smollett would fake the attack, aside from just the positive attention due to intersectionality, there are some reports that his character on the Fox show “Empire” was being written out of the storyline. This might have been an attempt to raise his profile ahead of the end of this run.

Fox denied that rumor, but even if his character weren’t being killed off, Smollett had nothing to lose and everything to gain by claiming to have been a victim of violent racism and homophobia. After the initial report, everyone in America knew his name. The cultural giants of the media, Hollywood and the Democratic Party were turning him into a martyr.

Smollett aspired to the heights of victimhood, just as liberals and the social justice movement have taught him.
