R. Kelly's lawyer issues denial of sexual misconduct allegations | TheHill - The Hill

A criminal defense attorney representing R. Kelly said Friday that the musician denies all allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against him.

Steve Greenberg said in an interview with The Associated Press that "the allegations aren’t true because he never knowingly had sex with an underage woman, he never forced anyone to do anything, he never held anyone captive, he never abused anyone.”

Kelly has faced renewed allegations of abuse this week following the release of “Surviving R. Kelly,” a docuseries in which multiple alleged victims of the 52-year-old singer detail decades-long accusations of sexual abuse.

Greenberg has said that the documentary proved nothing.

"It's a bunch of disgruntled people looking for their 15 minutes of TMZ fame," he told CBS News on Thursday.

"I believe that all of these women did exactly what they wanted to do. Because now there's some hashtag, that's not going to change," Greenberg added, referring to the #MeToo movement.

Greenberg has also said that R. Kelly did not know the late singer Aaliyah was 15 when he married her.

“My understanding is that she did not claim to be 15 and, in order to get married, she had to lie about her age. [He had] no idea,” Greenberg said in an interview on "Good Morning America" on Friday.
