R. Kelly Celebrates Birthday At Chicago Club Days After 'Surviving R.Kelly' Premiere - Vibe

The Lani Tsunami is about to hit, y'all.

Expectant mother Kehlani visited Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show to discuss an array of topics, from her excitement over giving birth to upcoming musical projects. During her 30-minute interview, the Bay Area native told the host that she is going back to her roots and releasing a mixtape that will be released "really soon."

"I made a mixtape, mixtape are my jam, that’s like, my happy thing," she divulged. "We did it again, and we made an amazing mixtape that I’m really, really stoked about."

She said that the mixtape strays away from her norm, and will feature four artists. One of which include Ty Dolla $ign, who appears on her recently-released track "Nights Like This."

“We’ve made songs and they’ve just never came out… this was just the perfect time for us both to just finally put something out," Kehlani says of the Beach House 3 artist. The musician also noted that her next album tells the story from the perspective of her parents, and is meant to be a gift for her unborn daughter.

"I started making an album, which became, possibly, one of the most serious projects I’ve ever worked on," she says of the project, which began development in September 2018. "It’s my parents’ story, articulated into mine, articulated into a gift for my daughter, so she knows where she comes from...[It’s] a really heavy load to process while I’m pregnant…breaking down my mom when I’m about to be a mom.”

In terms of pregnancy, Kehlani is seven months along on her journey, and she's looking forward to the actual event of giving birth, which she believes is complex and beautiful.

“I’m excited to be a mommy…Just to feel what that surrender feels like, completely surrendering to the entire process of being in extreme pain but also extreme beauty is very ceremonial to me.” She laughs and says she plans on spoiling her daughter with “lots of trips, experiences, friends, food," and wants her daughter to have a normal childhood experience away from designer duds and labels.
