It lasted three days. Featured a 75-foot-long veil. Not one, but three, designer gowns. And more diamonds than a mine.
The extravagant wedding between Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra and singer Nick Jonas was so big, it nearly outdid her best friend Meghan Markle’s nuptials with Prince Harry.
The celebrity wedding was held in front of 250 of their closest friends and family, including Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India. (Markle, alas, had pregnant-princess duties).
Chopra, 36, and Jonas, 26 — who got engaged in July after just two months of dating — appeared truly lovestruck as they gazed into each other’s eyes at the traditional Hindu ceremony, the second of their weddings.
For the Sunday ceremony, Chopra wore a sparkling, crimson red lehenga by top Indian designer Sabyasachi. It took 110 embroiderers in Calcutta 3,720 hours to create this insanely intricate look.
Her wedding-day jewels included uncut diamonds, emeralds and Japanese cultured pearls set in 22-karat gold by Chopard.
Not to be left out, Jonas too was decked out in jewels as he wore a hand-quilted silk sherwani. The couple both wore shoes by Christian Louboutin.
“It melted my heart,” Chopra told People magazine of their “religious mash-up,” adding: “Being able to have two big weddings, in India, with our closest family and friends was unbelievably special.”
The couple sold the rights to their wedding across the world — including to the UK’s Hello! magazine — as well as teaming up for the cover of January’s Vogue, in which they were captured on a Google Pixel 3 camera, in partnership with Google.
And they made it clear they were happy to enjoy the fruits of their romance by teaming up with luxury brands ranging from Tiffany to Amazon.
For the Jonas bachelor bash, he marked an Instagram post as a paid partnership with Elit vodka, while in another paid-partnership post, he showed off electric scooters for his groomsmen.
Chopra, meanwhile, celebrated her bachelorette party with celebs including Kelly Ripa and Lupita Nyong’o at Tiffany’s Blue Box Cafe in the Big Apple, wearing $1 million worth of jewels. Jonas had previously shut down London’s Tiffany & Co. to pick her engagement ring.
According to Vogue, guests were given goodie bags that included monogrammed passport cases, mini-cakes shaped like the iconic Tiffany box and champagne.
Chopra also collaborated with Amazon to design a special wedding registry, which cost $14,000, but for which Amazon pledged to donate $100,000 to UNICEF. She is a UNICEF ambassador.
The couple officially said “I do” in a Christian wedding ceremony on Saturday at the Umaid Bhawan Palace — a $60,000-a-night venue in Jodhpur — officiated by Jonas’ pastor father, Kevin Jonas Sr.
For this, Chopra looked every inch the fairy-tale princess in a gown designed by Ralph Lauren — who had designed the couple’s outfits for the Met Gala where they said they both fell for each other.
The hand-embroidered dress reportedly took 1,826 hours to make and featured 2,380,000 sequins.
As a string quartet played, the bride was escorted down the aisle by her mother, Madhu, (her father, Ashok, died of cancer in 2013), while her huge veil practically covered the entire expanse of the venue as it fluttered behind her, caught on camera by a perfectly placed drone.
”It was all tears. All tears. I could not hold it in. I think I was nervous and scared. But as soon as the curtains opened and I saw his face, it was just like everything settled and I knew I was making the best decision of my life,” Chopra gushed.
As for Jonas: “ I could not have imagined it would be as perfect as it was. It was highly emotional.”
