Reverend Al Sharpton has offered up his own thoughts when it comes to Travis Scott's pending performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. TMZ caught up with the famed civil rights activist for his words on the news, and he revealed that he wasn't too pleased with Scott's involvement in the NFL show, citing Colin Kaepernick's treatment and the league's overarching opposition against players who take a knee during the National Anthem.
"I think anyone that goes into the halftime show is in effect directly violating those that want to raise the question that the NFL should come to terms with what they have done and continue to do to Colin Kaepernick and those that protest on criminal justice issues," Sharpton told the outlet."You can’t tell people to stand for those that take a knee and don’t go to the games and then say, 'But somebody ought to perform there and entertain.' You're drawing TV viewers, you're bringing supporters, and I think that you can’t have it both ways."
There have been reports of the likes of Jay-Z Cardi B and Rihanna declining offers to perform at the Super Bowlin light of the same reasons that Sharpton referenced and in support of Colin Kaepernick who has become the face of on-field protests that eventually earned the champion quarterback an alleged blacklist placement.
Others have spoken out about Travis Scott's appearance at the Super Bowl, with Meek Mill taking to Twitter to remind Scott that he's "on fire already," adding "Stay strong in this shit!" New reports also suggest that Jay-Z has reached out to get the Houston emcee to back out of the performance.
